Well, at first work i decided to make some monoliths, big, medium and small ones with blue of some art from bronze age and traditional carving.

And i tried to make the carvings (except from the 2° of the second photo) to retrate war, mythology, a lot of ships for the Companions and Runic inscripts (the best i could understand) related to the Gods.

What do you guys think?

very good! Exactly what is needed.

The first one, with that Ysgramor-like face is truly outstanding.
I think, its very nice to have not only hoddimir-style-runestones but also mayan and sumerian elements ;-)
i love it. If possible, could you try another variant for more diversity? I can imagine telling ancient stories with them...
for example enpicturing a dragon, a bear, an owl, a wolf, a moth, a hawk, a swan, a stag, a hare, a whale, a fox,
a boar; or daily situations, or priests or jarls or ships.... something that catches your interest ;-)

additionally:
If you need, feel free to join the writers docs in the writer channels,
and you can talk with me or anathem7x or tascani about options for scripts if you have suggestions for us;
(what this monolith could do with magical abilities)

I'm awestruck. These monoliths look fantastic!

Nice idea,  the one of altars to the old gods in humanoid form. As long as you keep them small and compact just like Skyrim's ones it's okay, nothing like huge statues though. Those, at least for Kyne(hawk) and Shor(fox), we already have models for, with more being a possibility in the future assuming the artist is still working on them, as he had no problem basing them on the official concept art.

So if you need reference images for each one of them, look no further:

Good point bringing these up. Mayhaps we could incorporate them more in Atmora, considering it's Atmoran culture brought to Skyrim.

Sorry if I am too late, but i got an little idea. I am not sure if it fits into your plans but I will tell you: You asked for ideas, how the monoliths could effect magic skills.

My idea is: Most monoliths have blue  runes, they give positive passives and/or effects like increase the effect of your destruction or healing spells. On the other hand, there are some monoliths with red runes, these are giving negative passives and/or effects. For example your magicka regenerates slower, or they make you sick. It could be combined with a quest about finding out why there are the ones with red runes.

Greetings

if combined with some other ideas, may work. but the malus-stones need a reason for the gameplay to exist as well, i would like some second thoughts on the matter.
But basically i like the non-linear approach to not only have boni. Maybe tie it to a roleplay element (i wanted to do that all the time):
so to say, the boni-mali-system will depend on some attributes of your character and, lets say, the time (star constellation on Nirn)
ofc, deeper brainstorming and a clean filtering is needed.

I would love to hear from @KarouAkiyama again.
Please visit us at the Discord Server if you can.
see you around

Interesting idea, yes. Could work like the Reman, Sidri-Ashak and Hestra stones in Cyrodiil, in some ways.

We need to make sure that it fits, though, or else it would seem like a copy of what Team Cyrodiil did in, well, Cyrodiil

Possible source for the lore relevant functions of beneficial and malicious rune stones could come from Dragonborn.

TheNords on the island of Solsthiem claimed to be followers of the "Old Ways". Keeping to true Nordic ways of life and beliefs. (Basis for benefitial runes). Hermaeus Mora was the Woodland Man and seen as a force of evil (Basis of malicious runes).

Through this dynamic the ancient relationship between the Atmorans and Hermaeus Mora can be explored.

I was strolling in the Beyond Skyrim forum when i saw this post. The boni-mali system could be linked to the reputation towards each clan.

For example I just killed a bear member, I try to use a bear monolith and it gives me a malus. But if I help a bear clan grandma recovering her grandson, I can once again use bear monoliths and get a bonus.

Or I could be only linked to major quest. For example in a quest I chose to help the owl clan rather than the bear one, and now I can only use owl monoliths.

And if there is no color indication (the runes are always blue) players will hesitate to use them, it will force them to think about what they do to the clan and not just click on all the blues they found.

Anyway, may the force be with you for this amazing project!

it's a bit late and doesn't actualy matter or change anything but number 3 in picture 2 keeps reminding me of the pillars in oblivion from TES:IV. I remember everytime i found oblivion writing on a pillar or door or anything at all i would open a website and try to translate it... good times.

Maybe make them seem really out of place, somehow. At first you think it's some huge (like, at least 10m high) standing stone, but you realize that you aren't very close to any other rock formation. Then you notice the ancient, barely visible carvings starting to glow ever so slightly. You realize that this is a man-made structure. Then it hits you: how the hell did they do it in this barren place.
